Thursday Walking Group – Winter WanderLand
Join us on Thursday evenings for FREE group walks covering a variety of scenic routes in or around Troy. See below for a description of each week’s planned walk; location and terrain vary week to week, but walks are generally between 1 and 2 miles. Walkers are strongly encouraged to bring a flashlight, headlamp, or lantern. In case of icy conditions, we will meet at Somerset Mall in Troy—register below for email notification. All ages and levels of fitness are welcome! Offered in partnership with Beaumont Health.

Feb 7, 5pm: Troy Union Corners
Park at Venus shopping plaza on NORTHEAST corner of Square Lake Road & RochesterRoad
This week’s route features one hill, four lakes, and one of Troy’s oldest cemeteries, Union Corners. Meet at the Venus Plaza on the northeast corner of Square Lake & Rochester (that’s the one with Explore Yoga Studio, Shine Cafe, Credit Union ONE, etc.). We’ll head east along Square Lake and visit the cemetery (provided paths are clear), then do a loop through the Emerald Lakes subdivision. Distance: 2.3 miles.
Feb 14, 5pm: South Blvd. & Beach Road
Park at Pomeroy Living, 3434 W. South Blvd, on the EAST side of the building
Happy Valentine’s Day—walkers enjoy a sweet treat this week and some heart-healthy hill work! We cover two cities in one walk—starting at Pomeroy in Rochester Hills, our route will take us past Troy landmarks like Old Stone School, Bharatiya Temple, Lake Charnwood, and Troy Farm.Distance: 2 miles.
Feb 21, 5pm: Oakland University
Park at Oakland University, near Meadow Brook Theatre, 378 Meadow Brook Road, Rochester
Meet in front of Meadow Brook Theatre on Oakland University’s campus
The kids are on midwinter break, so count on plenty of parking! Our walk will take us across Bear Lake, beneath Elliott Clock Tower, around Marshall Fredericks’s “Saints and Sinners” sculpture, and into the woods via Lonedale Nature Trail. Distance: 2 miles.
Feb 28, 5pm: Rochester Municipal Park
Address is 400 Sixth Street, Rochester; Park your vehicle in the Pine Street parking lot
We didn’t walk this route last month due to extreme cold, so we will give it a shot this week, weather-permitting! Three excellent walks in one: from the Pine Street parking lot (near the duck pond), we’ll walk through Rochester Municipal Park and take the Paint Creek Trail to Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve for an out-and-back route on a mix of paved, gravel, and dirt trail surfaces. Distance: 2 miles.
