Experience the metaphoric and literal threads that weave us together as a nation of immigrants. Our two week quilt exhibit features 100+ vintage, modern, local and international works of textile art, plus kids’ activities and workshops for grown-ups. Threads theatre is a 50-minute play that will lead you through Village buildings as you enjoy dramatized versions of true stories of Troy residents, past and present.
Workshop is included with Quilt Exhibit admission. No registration required.
Creating Plant Dyes
Thursday August 17, 1:00pm – 2:00pm
The use of plant-based fabric dyes dates back to ancient times and has continued into more recent history. Did you know that Confederate soldiers’ uniforms were colored with dye made from butternut trees? Or that the eastern cottonwood, used by early American settlers to scout nearby water sources, also produced orange dye? Join avid quilter and historian Susan Lindsey in our Pioneer Log Cabin and learn to identify some of the plants in our area that will produce pretty fabric dyes.
